Mary Schmidt

Board of Directors

Mary Schmidt currently serves as a consultant for the Milwaukee Public School District, Seton Schools (a group of private schools), and Charter schools implementing a scalable professional development and coaching model to improve elementary school reading outcomes citywide. She is piloting Spring Math in select MPS schools. She also served as a consultant for Milwaukee Succeeds, a collective impact organization, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, co-authoring a micro-certificate course on early literacy for teachers. Previously, she founded Tosa Learning Center, Wauwatosa, WI which provided private tutoring for students, and professional development for teachers in the Wauwatosa School District. Mary spent seven years as the Assessment Director and Curriculum Director at St. Anthony School, Milwaukee (the largest K-12 Catholic school in the nation). There she partnered with Elizabeth Haughton, Carl Binder, and Kris Melroe to improve student learning and engagement school-wide by implementing a Response to Intervention (RtI) system. Mary and Elizabeth successfully launched a similar project at Archway-Glendale School in Arizona as well. Mary taught Statistics at Eckerd College, and Pediatric Psychology at the graduate school level at UW-Milwaukee. Previously, she also worked as the Process Improvement Research Analyst at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida. Mary served on the SCS board from January 2016-December 2018, and is honored to return to the board again to carry on its goals and mission and that of its members.
