CANCELLED Systematic Assessment and Intervention for Foundation Skills in Reading CANCELLED
Thursday, 12:30-3:30
Abstract: This workshop will cover both assessment and intervention for reading foundation skills. The assessment portion of the workshop will focus on phonemic awareness, rapid automatic naming (RAN), phonics, word recognition, and passage reading fluency. Assessments for the purpose of determining if students have the foundation skills necessary to benefit from programs, and to provide starting points for learning programs will be covered. Participants will learn how to assess the above skills at any point in a student's reading-skills development, ideally at the beginning of any program. They will learn to use timed assessments for more complete and accurate feedback than they might get using assessment instruments which compare students to national or state norms, or that measure only accuracy and not frequency. The section of this workshop on intervention will emphasize the development of phonemic awareness and RAN skills using Elizabeth Haughton's Phonological Coding and RAN programs. Participants will learn assessment, instructional, and practice strategies necessary to develop fluency in these important areas.

Clinical Precision Teaching for Autistic Spectrum Disorders
Thursday, 4:00-7:00
Abstract: Despite offering a promising prospective, the contribution of Precision Teaching to the field of autism so far remains modest, whether because the context in which it has been used is experimental or because potential applications have merely been explored. It amounts to a set of basic practices that contrast sharply with the contributions made by the approach to areas other than autism. The decision trees and teaching scripts typical of Precision Teaching pedagogy have not been validated for autism spectrum disorders. Hence, the interest of using Precision Teaching in a clinical, heuristic mode and hence, the topographical and functional adaptation of the process that we propose. This adaptation implies various changes but without disguising its instrumental value or underlying philosophy. These changes involve enlargement of the display, variable windowing of the observation process, entering data and getting a crystalline display of the line in Excel with guiding statistics about the ongoing change. Lindsley defined his approach in clear terms (1997) : “Precision Teaching, a monitoring, practice, decision-making system that combines powerfully with any curriculum, is the ultimate in formative evaluation.” This function is exploited in Clinical Precision Teaching.

Chair Name/AffiliationName/Affiliation: Kelly Ferris, Organization for Research and Learning, FEAT of WA
Discussant Name/Affiliation: Bill Helsel, AGILE at PLEA
Abstract: As Precision Teachers, we commonly use the Standard Celeration Chart to help us measure meaningful change in the lives of our clients and students. The SCC can also be a powerful tool to measure our behavior and expectations with respect to ourselves, our clients, our colleagues, and our organizations.
Paper 1: This paper will present multiple examples of the SCC to measure private events (inner behaviors), interventions tried, and the effects of the interventions on both private events and overt responses. data will also be shared for both the precision teacher as well as measures demonstrating the implications and changes for the clients served.
Paper 2: Interacting kindly and respectfully in all our relationships takes focus and attention. requires different patience and care. what relationships you are in, is a first step. what each relationship requires, is a journey. This paper will present data on the evolution of self-counts and recording systems in the journey towards achieving healthier relationships with myself, my colleagues, and my organization.
Paper 3: We choose goals that are socially significant that will better the lives of the people with whom we work. , meaningful change is need for ourselves. paper will discuss how the Chart can be used to measure socially significant and meaningful change in our personal lives, allowing us to be happier and healthier, in turn, improving how we serve our clients. collection of data from the areas of self-advocacy, self-management, physical health, and emotional health will be shared and discussed.
Attendees will learn how to pinpoint their own behavior for professional or personal growth and the implications for their clients. Discussion on how to analyze one’s own data on the Standard Celeration Chart will be covered. Attendees will also receive helpful tips on creatively counting their own thoughts and feelings.

The 4-Building Blocks: A Contextualist Model for Program Development
Saturday, 10:15-11:30
Chair Name/Affiliation: William J. Helsel, Ed.D., BCBA, AGILE @ PLEA
Abstract: In this symposium we will describe the evolution of the AGILE (Academic Generative Instruction for Learner Enhancement) at PLEA Learners Program. conceptual presentations will be made, which will be followed by three learners' charted histories. first of the conceptual presentations will show the existing findings from the science of human behavior allow for a description of an ever-changing history, or a stream of actions and events, that can only come to be understood after it has been experienced or "gone through." , that this "stream of actions and events" is "best measured by changing frequencies" and an understanding of the various systems or streams from where these measures are being taken. second conceptualization presentation will show the importance of recognizing the underlying "anxiety of the organization" from both an Acceptance Commitment Therapy perspective and a Bowen Family Systems perspective, which are powerful ways to come to see histories and potentiating variables nonlinearly. presentations are offered to lay the groundwork for three charted histories, where the changing frequencies of three learners over years will be shown.

Arithmetic and Semi logarithmic Line Charts: A Comparison of Visual Displays
Friday, 2:15-3:00
Abstract: Behavior analysts analyze and interpret data as well as construct, communicate, and defend claims of knowledge with statistical graphics. While behavior analysts do use other inscription devices, such as tables, the role of visual analysis throughout behavior analysis defines the discipline. From Skinner to contemporary behavior analysts, researchers and practitioners mostly rely on time series statistical graphics such as the line graph. With so much analytical and communicative power invested in line graphs, behavior analysts must consider how different types of line graphs affect their verbal behavior. This paper describes, compares, and contrasts two types of line graphs, arithmetic line graph and semi logarithmic line graphs.

Precision Teaching Self-Management and Group Attending Skills to a Youngster with Autism
Friday 2:15-3:00
Abstract: Self-monitoring is a frequently used behavior support strategy for learners with autism. first grade boy with autism was taught to self-monitor appropriate classroom behavior during academic instruction in his first-grade general education classroom. combined design integrating a multiple baseline design across behaviors and an alternating treatment design across subjects (spelling and math) were implemented. charted on the Standard Celeration Chart showed that the student made significant improvements in appropriate classroom behavior across both subjects, and was able to continue reliably scoring his behavior across longer intervals of academic instruction.
This presentation will advance the knowledge and skills of BCBA’s and BCaBA’s by demonstrating experimental designs on the SCC and expanding their knowledge of intervention related to group attending skills and self-monitoring.
