The International Precision Teaching Conference is a time when scientists, behavior analysts, students, parents, teachers, practitioners, and other interested parties gather together to share about Precision Teaching (PT) and other technologies utilizing the Standard Celeration Chart (SCC). Presentations typically discuss empirical data and methodologies, technological...
The Journal of precision Teaching and Celeration(JPTC) is the scientific journal of the Standard Celeration Society. The SCS publishes roughly twice a year. It provides a forum for research, practical applications, and discussions of Precision Teaching and Celeration technology. JPTC has dedicated itself to the promotion and diffusion of Precision Teaching and Standard Celeration...
The Standard Celeration Chart(SCS) was developed in 1967 be "Ogden Lindsley, Eric Haughton, (and several other graduate students of Lindsley's), Sanndy Houston (the administrative assistant), and Helen Brennan (the priter)" (Potts, Eshleman, & Cooper, 1993). The SCC is more tha a mere data-display tool; it guides its user to make data-driven analytical...
If you are attending ABAI in Seattle this year and are a member of the SCS, please come to the business meeting. We will be updating you with the latest news regarding the day-to-day working of the Society. This also is a great opportunity for you to ask...

The 2009 Lifetime Contributions to Precision Teaching and Standard Celeration Charting Achievement Award of the Standard Celeration Society was presented at the International Precision Teaching Conference (IPTC) 2009 to Professor Owen Roberts White, PhD. , University of Washington.
At the 2009 International Precision Teaching and Celeration conference held in State College, Pennsylvania, the Standard Celeration Society was grateful for the opportunity to demonstrate the esteem and honor in which Owen White is held for forty years of contributions to Precision Teaching and the education of children and people with disabilities, by award of the Society's highest honor, The Lifetime Contributions to Precision Teaching and Standard Celeration Charting Award
.Owen White has been a faculty member of the Special Education at the University of Washington since 1981. For over 20 years he has been a full Professor, and been of service to UW on a multitude of committees and directorships, as well as his scholarly publications and service on the Editorial Boards of the journals, Research and Practice for Persons with Severe Disabilities, Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Journal of Positive Behavioral Interventions, Journal of Precision Teaching, Exceptional Children, Behavioral Assessment, Remedial and Special Education, and Exceptional Education Quarterly
Qualities much admired in Owen White are, besides his academic scholarship: Attention to scientific rigor and precision, unabated scientific curiosity, a generosity of spirit to wholeheartedly share his intellectual gifts with the Precision Teaching community, a wry sense of humor, and a raconteur's gift as a teacher and lecturer. These unique qualities make the sharing of Owen’s knowledge both memorable and enjoyable for those privileged to be his student, colleague, or attendee at one of his presentations.
Starting forty years ago in 1969 with the monograph, Alper, T., & White, O. R. (1969)
Precision teaching: A tool for the school counselor and teacher
, Owen White's written work has enriched both the Precision Teaching field and those seeking effective, efficient, and data-based instruction to the benefit of students. His “little book”, A Glossary of Behavioral Terminology (1971), is one of the earliest published texts integrating Precision Teaching into the larger context of the science of behavior analysis. The longer work co-authored with Norris Haring, Exceptional teaching (1976, 1980 2nd. Ed), to this day remains a Precision Teacher's classic in its use of instructional design, standard celeration charting and, crucially, the use of data to make meaningful data-based decisions. It is very clear upon reading the text that Owen's emphasis is to give instructors the tools to become skilled navigators of effective and, as noted by the very title, exceptional teaching. In his own role as a teacher Owen has supported, and continues to support, the field of Precision Teaching by shaping Precision Teachers of the future through his classes at the University of Washington, and by making freely available to all - student, Precision Teacher, and public, the materials at his website.
As a participant in the Precision Teaching community and its organizations, Owen White was a member and officer of the early International Precision Teaching/Precision Learning Committee, and has supported and enriched the Standard Celeration Society by his membership of a 25 years and contributions as article author and consulting editor to the Society's journal, The Journal of Precision Teaching (now The Journal of Precision Teaching and Celeration). He currently serves on the Advisory Boards of the Behavior Research Company and the Precision Teaching Academy, and the Board of Directors of the Fluency Project, Inc.
For all these reasons, it is with affection, gratitude and respect - in honor of a career well-spent in support of teachers, students, and those with special challenges, that the Standard Celeration Society is privileged to present Owen Roberts White with the Lifetime Contributions to Precision Teaching and Standard Celeration Charting Achievement Award.
